rakṣā vaidikavarṇānāṁ śikṣā durmatirakṣasām |
lakṣmīṁ dadyāc catuḥślokī lakṣmīkāntasya bhūtivat ||

acpūrvaṁ hali hal dviruktam api ca sparśo lavor dhvaḥ svarād
ūrdhvād rād dhali vā 'ci vā hal api vā 'nusvārayuktādimau |
dvāv anyonyasahāyato 'ntaganaṅau hrasvāt parāv acparau
dve dve sto 'pi ca pūrvam āgamam itas turyadvitīyau halau ||1||

(1) acpūrvaṁ hali hal dviruktam: yajjñasya, ājjyam, uru pprathassva
(2) sparśo lavordhvaḥ svarāt: kalppān, vibhūdāvnne
(3) ūrdhvād rād dhali vā'ci vā hal: ūrkk ca me, arkke, suvarggam
(4) api vā'nusvārayuktādimau dvāv anyonyasahāyataḥ: saṁṁśśravā ha, vayaṁṁ ssyāma
(5) antaganaṅau hrasvāt parāv acparau dve dve staḥ: aśmann ūrjam, nyaṅṅ agniḥ
(6) pūrvamāgamamitasturyadvitīyau halau:

kiṁ cordhvā upasargataś chakhibhujā lakṣyāt kvacit pūrvagāḥ |

ūrdhve 'dhaḥ prathamo bhajet saṣaśato 'nanto dvitīyaṁ na vā ||2||

maḥ pūrvo 'py anunāsikaṁ ca yavalasparśāt savarṇaṁ bhajet ||3||

darśapūrṇamāsau, varāhvām, barsam; aśpman, varpma, aspman
(2) nānuttame halpare varge'nuttama uttame na:
ya kāmayeta, tac chaṁyoḥ, tad dhiraṇyam; aggne, dabbhnoti, pāppmānam
(3) na visargo raḥ: ghanāghana kṣobhanaḥ; arccanty arkkam
(4) haśasparśagaḥ laḥ: malhāḥ, sahasravalśāḥ, kalpān
(5) vaḥ sparśaparaḥ: vibhūdāvnne
(6) naśca yavahāt pūrvo'ntago na dvidhā: janān yātayati, sarvān vai, etān homān
(7) maḥ pūrvo'pyanunāsikaṁ ca yavalasparśāt savarṇaṁ bhajet:
ya kāmayeta, śañ ca me, abiṣa ṇāḥ, tan te, tam pratnathā, sayattāḥ, savatsaraḥ, ta lokam

तत्र शब्दार्थज्ञानविकल्पैः संकीर्णा सवितर्का समापत्तिः ॥१.४२॥

शौचसंतोषतपःस्वाध्यायेश्वरप्रणिधानानि नियमाः ॥२.३२॥

तदेवार्थमात्रनिर्भासं स्वरूपशून्यमिव समाधिः ॥३.३॥

tad evārtha-mātra-nirbhāsaṁ svarūpa-śūnyam iva samādhiḥ ||3.3||
tat eva artha-mātra-nirbhāsam svarūpa-śūnyam iva samādhiḥ ||3.3||

त्रयमेकत्र संयमः ॥३.४॥

व्युत्थाननिरोधसंस्कारयोरभिभवप्रादुर्भावौ निरोधक्षणचित्तान्वयो निरोधपरिणामः ॥३.९॥
vyutthānanirodhasaṁskārayorabhibhavaprādurbhāvau nirodhakṣaṇacittānvayo nirodhapariṇāmaḥ ||3.9||
vyutthāna-nirodha-saṁskārayor abhibhava-prādurbhāvau nirodha-kṣaṇa-cittānvayo nirodha-pariṇāmaḥ ||3.9||

सर्वार्थतैकाग्रतयोः क्षयोदयौ चित्तस्य समाधिपरिणामः ॥३.११॥

शब्दार्थप्रत्ययानामितरेतराध्यासात्संकरस्तत्प्रविभागसंयमात्सर्वभूतरुतज्ञानम् ॥३.१७॥
śabdārthapratyayānāmitaretarādhyāsātsaṁkarastatpravibhāgasaṁyamātsarvabhūtarutajñānam ||3.17||
śabdārtha-pratyayānām itaretarādhyāsāt saṁkaras tat-pravibhāga-saṁyamāt sarva-bhūta-ruta-jñānam ||3.17||
śabda-artha-pratyayānām itara-itara-adhyāsāt saṁkaraḥ tat-pravibhāga-saṁyamāt sarva-bhūta-ruta-jñānam ||3.17||

संस्कारसाक्षात्करणात्पूर्वजातिज्ञानम् ॥३.१८॥

saṁskāra-sākṣāt-karaṇāt pūrva-jāti-jñānam ||3.18||

प्रत्ययस्य परचित्तज्ञानम् ॥३.१९॥

न च तत्सालम्बनं तस्याविषयीभूतत्वात् ॥३.२०॥

कायरूपसंयमात्तद्ग्राह्यशक्तिस्तम्भे चक्षुःप्रकाशासंप्रयोगेऽन्तर्धानम् ॥३.२१॥
kāyarūpasaṁyamāttadgrāhyaśaktistambhe cakṣuḥprakāśāsaṁprayoge'ntardhānam ||3.21||
kāya-rūpa-saṁyamāt tad-grāhya-śakti-stambhe cakṣuḥ-prakāśāsaṁprayoge 'ntar-dhānam ||3.21||
kāya-rūpa-saṁyamāt tat-grāhya-śakti-stambhe cakṣuḥ-prakāśa-asaṁprayoge antaḥ-dhānam ||3.21||

सोपक्रमं निरुपक्रमं च कर्म। तत्संयमादपरान्तज्ञानम् अरिष्टेभ्यो वा ॥३.२२॥
sopakramaṁ nirupakramaṁ ca karma| tatsaṁyamādaparāntajñānam ariṣṭebhyo vā ||3.22||

sattvapuruṣayoratyantāsaṁkīrṇayoḥ pratyayāviśeṣo bhogaḥ parārthatvātsvārthasaṁyamātpuruṣajñānam ||3.35||
sattva-puruṣayor atyantāsaṁkīrṇayoḥ pratyayāviśeṣo bhogaḥ parārthatvāt svārtha-saṁyamāt puruṣa-jñānam ||3.35||

ततः प्रातिभश्रावणवेदनादर्शास्वादवार्ता जायन्ते ॥३.३६॥

बहिरकल्पिता वृत्तिर्महाविदेहा। ततः प्रकाशावरणक्षयः ॥३.४३॥

स्थूलस्वरूपसूक्ष्मान्वयार्थवत्त्वसंयमाद्भूतजयः ॥३.४४॥

ततोऽणिमादिप्रादुर्भावः कायसंपत्तद्धर्मानभिघातश्च ॥३.४५॥

रूपलावण्यबलवज्रसंहननत्वानि कायसंपत् ॥३.४६॥

rūpa-lāvaṇya-bala-vajra-saṁhananatvāni kāya-saṁpat ||3.46||

ग्रहणस्वरूपास्मितान्वयार्थवत्त्वसंयमादिन्द्रियजयः ॥३.४७॥
grahaṇasvarūpāsmitānvayārthavattvasaṁyamādindriyajayaḥ ||3.47||
grahaṇa-svarūpāsmitānvayārthavattva-saṁyamād indriya-jayaḥ ||3.47||

सत्त्वपुरुषान्यताख्यातिमात्रस्य सर्वभावाधिष्ठातृत्वं सर्वज्ञातृत्वं च ॥३.४९॥
sattvapuruṣānyatākhyātimātrasya sarvabhāvādhiṣṭhātṛtvaṁ sarvajñātṛtvaṁ ca ||3.49||
sattva-puruṣānyatā-khyāti-mātrasya sarva-bhāvādhiṣṭhātṛtvaṁ sarva-jñātṛtvaṁ ca ||3.49||
sattva-puruṣa-anyatā-khyāti-mātrasya sarva-bhāva-adhiṣṭhātṛtvam sarva-jñātṛtvam ca ||3.49||

तद्वैराग्यादपि दोषबीजक्षये कैवल्यम् ॥३.५०॥

स्थान्युपनिमन्त्रणे सङ्गस्मयाकरणं पुनरनिष्टप्रसङ्गात् ॥३.५१॥
sthānyupanimantraṇe saṅgasmayākaraṇaṁ punaraniṣṭaprasaṅgāt ||3.51||
sthāny-upanimantraṇe saṅga-smayākaraṇaṁ punar-aniṣṭa-prasaṅgāt ||3.51||
sthāni-upanimantraṇe saṅga-smaya-akaraṇam punaḥ-aniṣṭa-prasaṅgāt ||3.51||

क्षणतत्क्रमयोः संयमाद्विवेकजं ज्ञानम् ॥३.५२॥

जातिलक्षणदेशैरन्यतानवच्छेदात्तुल्ययोस्ततः प्रतिपत्तिः ॥३.५३॥

jāti-lakṣaṇa-deśair anyatānavacchedāt tulyayos tataḥ pratipattiḥ ||3.53||

तारकं सर्वविषयं सर्वथाविषयमक्रमं चेति विवेकजं ज्ञानम् ॥३.५४॥

hetu-phalāśrayālambanaiḥ saṁgṛhītatvād eṣām abhāve tad-abhāvaḥ ||4.11||
hetu-phala-āśraya-ālambanaiḥ saṁgṛhītatvāt eṣām abhāve tat-abhāvaḥ ||4.11||

अतीतानागतं स्वरूपतोऽस्त्यध्वभेदाद्धर्माणाम् ॥४.१२॥
atītānāgataṁ svarūpato'styadhvabhedāddharmāṇām ||4.12||
atītānāgataṁ svarūpato 'sty adhva-bhedād dharmāṇām ||4.12||

परिणामैकत्वाद्वस्तुतत्त्वम् ॥४.१४॥

वस्तुसाम्ये चित्तभेदात्तयोर्विभक्तः पन्थाः ॥४.१५॥

vastu-sāmye citta-bhedāt tayor vibhaktaḥ panthāḥ ||4.15||

न चैकचित्ततन्त्रं वस्तु तदप्रमाणकं तदा किं स्यात् ॥४.१६॥
na caikacittatantraṁ vastu tadapramāṇakaṁ tadā kiṁ syāt ||4.16||
na caikacitta-tantraṁ vastu tad-apramāṇakaṁ tadā kiṁ syāt ||4.16||
na ca eka-citta-tantram vastu tat-apramāṇakam tadā kim syāt ||4.16||

तदुपरागापेक्षित्वाच्चित्तस्य वस्तु ज्ञाताज्ञातम् ॥४.१७॥
taduparāgāpekṣitvāccittasya vastu jñātājñātam ||4.17||
tad-uparāgāpekṣitvāc cittasya vastu jñātājñātam ||4.17||
tad-uparāga-apekṣitvāt cittasya vastu jñāta-ajñātam ||4.17||

सदा ज्ञाताश्चित्तवृत्तयस्तत्प्रभोः पुरुषस्यापरिणामित्वात् ॥४.१८॥
sadā jñātāścittavṛttayastatprabhoḥ puruṣasyāpariṇāmitvāt ||4.18||
sadā jñātāś citta-vṛttayas tat-prabhoḥ puruṣasyāpariṇāmitvāt ||4.18||
sadā jñātāḥ citta-vṛttayaḥ tat-prabhoḥ puruṣasya apariṇāmitvāt ||4.18||

न तत्स्वाभासं दृश्यत्वात् ॥४.१९॥
na tatsvābhāsaṁ dṛśyatvāt ||4.19||
na tat svābhāsaṁ dṛśyatvāt ||4.19||
na tat sva-ābhāsam dṛśyatvāt ||4.19||

एकसमये चोभयानवधारणम् ॥४.२०॥

cittāntara-dṛśye buddhi-buddher atiprasaṅgaḥ smṛti-saṁkaraś ca ||4.21||
citta-antara-dṛśye buddhi-buddheḥ atiprasaṅgaḥ smṛti-saṁkaraḥ ca ||4.21||

चितेरप्रतिसंक्रमायास्तदाकारापत्तौ स्वबुद्धिसंवेदनम् ॥४.२२॥
citerapratisaṁkramāyāstadākārāpattau svabuddhisaṁvedanam ||4.22||
citer apratisaṁkramāyās tad-ākārāpattau sva-buddhi-saṁvedanam ||4.22||
citeḥ apratisaṁkramāyāḥ tat-ākāra-āpattau sva-buddhi-saṁvedanam ||4.22||

द्रष्टृदृश्योपरक्तं चित्तं सर्वार्थम् ॥४.२३॥
draṣṭṛdṛśyoparaktaṁ cittaṁ sarvārtham ||4.23||
draṣṭṛ-dṛśyoparaktaṁ cittaṁ sarvārtham ||4.23||
draṣṭṛ-dṛśya-uparaktam cittam sarva-artham ||4.23||

तदसंख्येय-वासनाभिश्चित्रमपि परार्थं संहत्यकारित्वात् ॥४.२४॥
tadasaṁkhyeya-vāsanābhiścitramapi parārthaṁ saṁhatyakāritvāt ||4.24||
tad asaṁkhyeya-vāsanābhiś citram api parārthaṁ saṁhatya-kāritvāt ||4.24||
tat asaṁkhyeya-vāsanābhiḥ citram api para-artham saṁhatya-kāritvāt ||4.24||

विशेषदर्शिन आत्मभावभावनाविनिवृत्तिः ॥४.२५॥
viśeṣadarśina ātmabhāvabhāvanāvinivṛttiḥ ||4.25||
viśeṣa-darśina ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā-vinivṛttiḥ ||4.25||
viśeṣa-darśinaḥ ātma-bhāva-bhāvanā-vinivṛttiḥ ||4.25||

तदा विवेकनिम्नं कैवल्यप्राग्भारं चित्तम् ॥४.२६॥
tadā vivekanimnaṁ kaivalyaprāgbhāraṁ cittam ||4.26||
tadā viveka-nimnaṁ kaivalya-prāgbhāraṁ cittam ||4.26||
tadā viveka-nimnam kaivalya-prāgbhāram cittam ||4.26||

तच्छिद्रेषु प्रत्ययान्तराणि संस्कारेभ्यः ॥४.२७॥
tacchidreṣu pratyayāntarāṇi saṁskārebhyaḥ ||4.27||
tac-chidreṣu pratyayāntarāṇi saṁskārebhyaḥ ||4.27||
tat-chidreṣu pratyaya-antarāṇi saṁskārebhyaḥ ||4.27||

हानमेषां क्लेशवदुक्तम् ॥४.२८॥

प्रसंख्यानेऽप्यकुसीदस्य सर्वथा विवेकख्यातेर्धर्ममेघः समाधिः ॥४.२९॥
prasaṁkhyāne'pyakusīdasya sarvathā vivekakhyāterdharmameghaḥ samādhiḥ ||4.29||
prasaṁkhyāne 'py akusīdasya sarvathā viveka-khyāter dharma-meghaḥ samādhiḥ ||4.29||
prasaṁkhyāne api akusīdasya sarvathā viveka-khyāteḥ dharma-meghaḥ samādhiḥ ||4.29||

ततः क्लेशकर्मनिवृत्तिः ॥४.३०॥
tataḥ kleśakarmanivṛttiḥ ||4.30||

तदा सर्वावरणमलापेतस्य ज्ञानस्यानन्त्याज्ज्ञेयमल्पम् ॥४.३१॥

tadā sarvāvaraṇa-malāpetasya jñānasyānantyāj jñeyam alpam ||4.31||
tadā sarva-āvaraṇa-mala-apetasya jñānasya anantyāt jñeyam alpam ||4.31||

ततः कृतार्थानां परिणामक्रमपरिसमाप्तिर्गुणानाम् ॥४.३२॥
tataḥ kṛtārthānāṁ pariṇāmakramaparisamāptirguṇānām ||4.32||
tataḥ kṛtārthānāṁ pariṇāma-krama-samāptir guṇānām ||4.32||
tataḥ kṛta-arthānām pariṇāma-krama-samāptiḥ guṇānām ||4.32||

क्षणप्रतियोगी परिणामापरान्तनिर्ग्राह्यः क्रमः ॥४.३३॥
kṣaṇapratiyogī pariṇāmāparāntanirgrāhyaḥ kramaḥ ||4.33||
kṣaṇa-pratiyogī pariṇāmāparānta-nirgrāhyaḥ kramaḥ ||4.33||

पुरुषार्थशून्यानां गुणानां प्रतिप्रसवः कैवल्यं स्वरूपप्रतिष्ठा वा चितिशक्तिरिति ॥४.३४॥
puruṣārthaśūnyānāṁ guṇānāṁ pratiprasavaḥ kaivalyaṁ svarūpapratiṣṭhā vā citiśaktiriti ||4.34||
puruṣārtha-śūnyānāṁ guṇānāṁ pratiprasavaḥ kaivalyaṁ svarūpa-pratiṣṭhā vā citi-śaktir iti ||4.34||
puruṣa-artha-śūnyānām guṇānām pratiprasavaḥ kaivalyam svarūpa-pratiṣṭhā vā citi-śaktiḥ iti ||4.34||

इति पतञ्जलिविरचिते योगसूत्रे चतुर्थः कैवल्यपादः ।
