Tattvabodha

TATTVABODHAḤ

vāsudevendrayogīndraṁ natvā jñānapradaṁ gurum ।
mumukṣūṇāṁ hitārthāya tattvabodho'bhidhīyate ॥

sādhanacatuṣṭayasampannādhikāriṇāṁ mokṣasādhanabhūtaṁ
tattvavivekaprakāraṁ vakṣyāmaḥ ।

SĀDHANACATUṢṬAYAM
sādhanacatuṣṭayaṁ kim ?
nityānityavastuvivekaḥ ।
ihāmutrārthaphalabhogavirāgaḥ ।
śamādiṣaṭkasampattiḥ ।
mumukṣutvaṁ ceti ||1.0||

nityānityavastuvivekaḥ kaḥ ?
nityavastvekaṁ brahma tadvyatiriktaṁ sarvamanityam ।
ayameva nityānityavastuvivekaḥ ||1.1||

virāgaḥ kaḥ ?
ihasvargabhogeṣu icchārāhityam  ||1.2||

śamādisādhanasampattiḥ kā ?
śamo dama uparamastitikṣā śraddhā samādhānaṁ ca iti  ||1.3||

śamaḥ kaḥ ?
manonigrahaḥ ||1.3.1||

damaḥ kaḥ ?
cakṣurādibāhyendriyanigrahaḥ ||1.3.2||

uparamaḥ kaḥ ?
svadharmānuṣṭhānameva ||1.3.3||

titikṣā kā ?
śītoṣṇasukhaduḥkhādisahiṣṇutvam ||1.3.4||

śraddhā kīdṛśī ?
guruvedāntavākyādiṣu viśvāsaḥ śraddhā ||1.3.5||

samādhānaṁ kim ?
cittaikāgratā ||1.3.6||

mumukṣutvaṁ kim ?
mokṣo me bhūyād iti icchā ||1.4||

etat sādhanacatuṣṭayam ।
tatastattvavivekasyādhikāriṇo bhavanti ||1.5||

TATTVAVIVEKAḤ
tattvavivekaḥ kaḥ ?
ātmā satyaṁ tadanyat sarvaṁ mithyeti ||2.1||

ātmā kah?
sthūlasūkṣmakāraṇaśarīrādvyatiriktaḥ pañcakośātītaḥ san |
avasthātrayasākṣī | saccidānandasvarūpaḥ san |
yastiṣṭhati sa ātmā ||2.2||

ŚARĪRATRAYAM
sthūlaśarīraṁ kim ?
pañcīkṛtapañcamahābhūtaiḥ kṛtaṁ satkarmajanyam |
sukhaduḥkhādibhogāyatanaṁ śarīram |
asti jāyate vardhate vipariṇamate apakṣīyate vinaśyatīti
ṣaḍvikāravadetatsthūlaṣarīram ||3.1||

sūkṣmaśarīraṁ kim ?
apañcīkṛtapañcamahābhūtaiḥ kṛtaṁ satkarmajanyam |
sukhaduḥkhādibhogāyatanam |
pañcajñānendriyāṇi pañcakarmendriyāṇi pañcaprāṇādayaḥ |
manaścaikaṁ buddhiścaikā |
evaṁ saptadaśākalābhiḥ saha yattiṣṭhati tatsūkṣmāśarīram ||3.2||

kāraṇaśarīraṁ kim ?
anirvācyānādyavidyārūpaṁ śarīradvayasya kāraṇamātraṁ
satsvarūpa ajñānaṁ nirvikalpakarūpaṁ yadasti tatkāraṇaśarīram ||3.3||

JÑĀNENDRIYĀṆI
śrotraṁ tvak cakṣuḥ rasanā ghrāṇam | iti pañca jñānendriyāṇi ||4.1||

jñānendriyadevatāḥ
śrotrasya digdevatā । tvaco vāyuḥ । cakṣuṣaḥ sūryaḥ । rasanāyā varuṇaḥ ।
ghrāṇasya aśvinau । iti jñānendriyadevatāḥ ||4.2||

jñānendriyaviṣayāḥ
śrotrasya viṣayaḥ śabdagrahaṇam । tvaco viṣayaḥ sparśagrahaṇam ।
cakṣuṣo viṣayaḥ rūpagrahaṇam । rasanāyā viṣayaḥ rasagrahaṇam ।
ghrāṇasya viṣayaḥ gandhagrahaṇam iti ||4.3||

KARMENDRIYĀṆI
vākpāṇipādapāyūpasthānīti  pañcakarmendriyāṇi ||5.1||

karmendriyadevatāḥ
vāco devatā vahniḥ । hastayorindraḥ । pādayorviṣṇuḥ ।
pāyormṛtyuḥ । upasthasya prajāpatiḥ । iti karmendriyadevatāḥ ||5.2||

karmendriyaviṣayāḥ
vāco viṣayaḥ bhāṣaṇam । pāṇyorviṣayaḥ vastugrahaṇam ।
pādayorviṣayaḥ gamanam । pāyorviṣayaḥ malatyāgaḥ ।
upasthasya viṣayaḥ ānanda iti ||5.3||

AVASTHĀTRAYAM
avasthātrayaṁ kim ?
jāgratsvapnasuṣuptyavasthāḥ ||6.0||

jāgradavasthā kā ?
śrotrādijñānendriyaiḥ śabdādiviṣayaiśca jñāyate iti yat sā jāgradavasthā ।
sthūlaśarīrābhimānī ātmā viśva ityucyate ||6.1||

svapnāvasthā keti cet ?
jāgradavasthāyāṁ yaddṛṣṭaṁ yad śrutam
tajjanitavāsanayā nidrāsamaye yaḥ prapañcaḥ pratīyate sā svapnāvasthā ।
sūkṣmaśarīrābhimānī ātmā taijasa ityucyate ||6.2||

ataḥ suṣuptyavasthā kā ?
ahaṁ kimapi na jānāmi sukhena mayā nidrā'nubhūyata iti suṣuptyavasthā ।
kāraṇaśarīrābhimānī ātmā prājña ityucyate ||6.3||

PAÑCA KOŚĀḤ
pañca kośāḥ ke ?
annamayaḥ prāṇamayaḥ manomayaḥ vijñānamayaḥ ānandamayaśceti ||7.0||

annamayaḥ kaḥ ?
annarasenaiva bhūtvā annarasenaiva vṛddhiṁ prāpya
annarūpapṛthivyāṁ yadvilīyate tadannamayaḥ kośaḥ sthūlaśarīram ||7.1||

prāṇamayaḥ kaḥ ?
prāṇādyāḥ pañcavāyavaḥ vāgādīndriyapañcakaṁ prāṇamayaḥ kośaḥ ||7.2||

manomayaḥ kośaḥ kaḥ ?
manaśca jñānendriyapañcakaṁ militvā yo bhavati  sa manomayaḥ kośaḥ ||7.3||

vijñānamayaḥ kaḥ ?
buddhijñānendriyapañcakaṁ militvā yo bhavati sa vijñānamayaḥ kośaḥ ||7.4||

ānandamayaḥ kaḥ ?
evameva kāraṇaśarīrabhūtāvidyāsthamalinasattvaṁ
priyādivṛttisahitaṁ sat ānandamayaḥ kośaḥ । etatkośapañcakam ||7.5||

ĀTMĀ
madīyaṁ śarīraṁ madīyāḥ prāṇāḥ madīyaṁ  manaśca
madīyā buddhirmadīyaṁ ajñānamiti svenaiva  jñāyate
tadyathā madīyatvena jñātaṁ kaṭakakuṇḍalagṛhādikaṁ svasmadbhinnaṁ
tathā pañcakośādikaṁ  svasmadbhinnaṁ
madīyatvena jñātamātmā na bhavati ||8.0||

ātmā tarhi kaḥ ?
saccidānandasvarūpaḥ ||8.1||

satkim ?
kālatraye'pi tiṣṭhatīti sat ||8.2||

citkim ?
jñānasvarūpaḥ ||8.3||

ānandaḥ kaḥ ?
sukhasvarūpaḥ ||8.4||

evaṁ saccidānandasvarūpaṁ svātmānaṁ  vijānīyāt ||8.5||

TATTVOTPATTIḤ
atha caturviṁśatitattvotpattiprakāraṁ vakṣyāmaḥ ||9.0||

brahmāśrayā sattvarajastamoguṇātmikā māyā asti ||9.1||

tata ākāśaḥ sambhūtaḥ । ākāśād vāyuḥ । vāyostejaḥ । tejasa āpaḥ । adbhyaḥ pṛthivī ||9.2||

jñānendriyasambhūti
eteṣāṁ pañcatattvānāṁ madhye
ākāśasya sātvikāṁśāt śrotrendriyaṁ  sambhūtam ।
vāyoḥ sātvikāṁśāt tvagindriyaṁ sambhūtam ।
agneḥ sātvikāṁśāt cakṣurindriyaṁ sambhūtam ।
jalasya sātvikāṁśāt rasanendriyaṁ sambhūtam ।
pṛthivyāḥ sātvikāṁśāt ghrāṇendriyaṁ sambhūtam ||9.3||

antaḥkaraṇasambhūti
eteṣāṁ pañcatattvānāṁ samaṣṭisātvikāṁśāt
manobuddhyahaṅkāracittāntaḥkaraṇāni sambhūtāni ||9.4||

saṅkalpavikalpātmakaṁ manaḥ । niścayātmikā buddhiḥ ।
ahaṁkartā ahaṁkāraḥ । cintanakartṛ cittam ||9.5||

antaḥkaraṇadevatāḥ
manaso devatā candramāḥ । buddherbrahmā ।
ahaṁkārasya rudraḥ । cittasya vāsudevaḥ ||9.6||

karmendriyasambhūti
eteṣāṁ pañcatattvānāṁ madhye
ākāśasya rājasāṁśāt vāgindriyaṁ sambhūtam ।
vāyoḥ rājasāṁśāt pāṇīndriyaṁ sambhūtam ।
vahne rājasāṁśāt pādendriyaṁ sambhūtam ।
jalasya rājasāṁśāt upasthendriyaṁ sambhūtam ।
pṛthivyā rājasāṁśāt gudendriyaṁ sambhūtam ||9.7||

eteṣāṁ samaṣṭirājasāṁśāt pañcaprāṇāḥ sambhūtāḥ ||9.8||

pañcatattvasambhūti
eteṣāṁ pañcatattvānāṁ tāmasāṁśāt
pañcīkṛtapañcatattvāni bhavanti ||9.9||

pañcīkaraṇaṁ katham iti cet ।
eteṣāṁ pañcamahābhūtānāṁ tāmasāṁśasvarūpam
ekamekaṁ bhūtaṁ dvidhā vibhajya ekamekamardhaṁ pṛthak
tūṣṇīṁ vyavasthāpya aparamaparamardhaṁ caturdhāṁ vibhajya
svārdhamanyeṣu ardheṣu svabhāgacatuṣṭayasaṁyojanaṁ
kāryam ।  tadā pañcīkaraṇaṁ bhavati ||9.10||

etebhyaḥ pañcīkṛtapañcamahābhūtebhyaḥ sthūlaśarīraṁ bhavati ||9.11||

evaṁ piṇḍabrahmāṇḍayoraikyaṁ sambhūtam ||9.12||

JĪVEŚVARABHEDABUDDHIḤ
sthūlaśarīrābhimānī jīvanāmakaṁ brahmapratibimbaṁ bhavati ।
sa eva jīvaḥ prakṛtyā svasmāt īśvaraṁ bhinnatvena jānāti ||10.1||

avidyopādhiḥ san ātmā jīva ityucyate ।
māyopādhiḥ san īśvara ityucyate ||10.2||

evaṁ upādhibhedāt jīveśvarabhedadṛṣṭiḥ yāvatparyantaṁ tiṣṭhati
tāvatparyantaṁ janmamaraṇādirūpasaṁsāro na nivartate ||10.3||

tasmātkāraṇānna jīveśvarayorbhedabuddhiḥ svīkāryā ||10.4||

JĪVEŚVARAIKYAM
nanu sāhaṁkārasya kiṁcijjñasya jīvasya
nirahaṁkārasya sarvajñasya īśvarasya ||11.1||

tattvamasīti mahāvākyāt kathamabhedabuddhiḥ syād
ubhayoḥ viruddhadharmākrāntatvāt । iti cenna ||11.2||

sthūlasūkṣmaśarīrābhimānī tvaṁpadavācyārthaḥ ।
upādhivinirmuktaṁ samādhidaśāsampannaṁ śuddhaṁ caitanyaṁ tvaṁpadalakṣyārthaḥ ||11.3||

evaṁ sarvajñatvādiviśiṣṭa īśvaraḥ tatpadavācyārthaḥ ।
upādhiśūnyaṁ śuddhacaitanyaṁ tatpadalakṣyārthaḥ ||11.4||

evaṁ ca jīveśvarayo caitanyarūpeṇābhede bādhakābhāvaḥ ||11.5||

JĪVANMUKTIḤ
evaṁ ca vedāntavākyaiḥ sadgurūpadeśena ca sarveṣvapi bhūteṣu
yeṣāṁ brahmabuddhirutpannā te jīvanmuktāḥ ityarthaḥ ||12.1||

nanu jīvanmuktaḥ kaḥ ?
yathā deho'haṁ puruṣo'haṁ brāhmaṇo'haṁ śūdro'hamasmīti dṛḍhaniścayas
tathā nāhaṁ brāhmaṇaḥ na śūdraḥ na puruṣaḥ
kintu asaṁgaḥ saccidānandasvarūpaḥ  prakāśarūpaḥ sarvāntaryāmī
cidākāśarūpo'smīti dṛḍhaniścayarūpo 'parokṣajñānavān jīvanmuktaḥ ||12.2||

brahmaivāhamasmītyaparokṣajñānena nikhilakarmabandhavinirmuktaḥ syāt ||12.3||

KARMĀṆI
karmāṇi katividhāni santīti cet
āgāmisañcitaprārabdhabhedena trividhāni santi ||13.1||

jñānotpattyanantaraṁ jñānidehakṛtaṁ puṇyapāparūpaṁ karma
yadasti tadāgāmītyabhidhīyate ||13.2||

sañcitaṁ karma kim ?
anantakoṭijanmanāṁ bījabhūtaṁ sat yatkarmajātaṁ pūrvārjitaṁ
tiṣṭhati tat sañcitaṁ jñeyam ||13.3||

prārabdhaṁ karma kimiti cet ।
idaṁ śarīramutpādya iha loke evaṁ sukhaduḥkhādipradaṁ
yatkarma tatprārabdhaṁ
bhogena naṣṭaṁ bhavati prārabdhakarmaṇāṁ bhogādeva kṣaya iti ||13.4||

sañcitaṁ karma brahmaivāhamiti niścayātmakajñānena naśyati ||13.5||

āgāmi karma api jñānena naśyati kiṁca āgāmi karmaṇāṁ
nalinīdalagatajalavat jñānināṁ sambandho nāsti ||13.6||

kiṁca ye jñāninaṁ stuvanti bhajanti arcayanti tānprati
jñānikṛtaṁ āgāmi puṇyaṁ gacchati ||13.7.1||

ye jñāninaṁ nindanti dviṣanti duḥkhapradānaṁ kurvanti tānprati
jñānikṛtaṁ sarvamāgāmi kriyamāṇaṁ yadavācyaṁ karma
pāpātmakaṁ tadgacchati ||13.7.2||

suhṛdaḥ puṇyakṛtaṁ durhṛdaḥ pāpakṛtyaṁ gṛhṇanti ||13.7.3||

tathā cātmavitsaṁsāraṁ tīrtvā brahmānandamihaiva prāpnoti ।
tarati śokamātmavit iti śruteḥ ||13.8.1||

tanuṁ tyajatu vā kāśyāṁ śvapacasya gṛhe'tha vā ||13.8.2||

jñānasamprāptisamaye mukto'sau vigatāśayaḥ । iti smṛteśca ||13.8.3||

iti tattvabodhaprakaraṇaṁ samāptam ||
